Rusch Resting in the Glow of Victory

Rebecca Rusch is resting up after completing a seemingly impossible weekend. She won her 3rd straight 24 Hour Solo Mountain Bike World Championship title in Canmore, Canada.

The effort wasn’t easy, Rusch had to ride 180 miles with 30,000 feet of climbing in just 23 hours. The race was grueling to say the least, but for Rebecca it was all worth it.

“The glow of winning worlds three years in a row is going to take years to wear off,” says Rusch, “This year’s training was entirely focused on peaking for this singular day and putting my name definitively in the record books for endurance mountain bike racing.”

Rusch went wire to wire, leading after the first lap and never looked back. Some short stumbles and a stomach that wouldn’t keep food down weren’t enough to derail the defending champion.

“All season at the end of every single training ride, I had visualized this finish line,” says Rusch. “This precise scene was etched in my mind and has been my singular motivation for a year.”

Down to the Wire in Minnesota

Matty Reed chalked up another victory this weekend, winning the Life Time Fitness Triathlon in Minneapolis. But it definitely wasn’t easy. Reed got a serious challenge from fellow Suunto teammate Andy Potts.

In fact, the race came down to the final quarter mile with Reed and Potts sprinting for the line. Reed was slightly better clocking an overall time of 1:49:15.3, just .2 of a second better than Potts.

You can read a full account of the race here: http://www.slowtwitch.com/News/Reed_Haskins_earn_Life_Time_victories_912.html

Another great race and another great week for Suunto.

Thanks to Kerry Indestad for the great image.
