Tacticalgear.com Reviews the Ambit

Here's another great video by Tacticalgear.com--this time it's a great review of the Suunto Ambit.

The Tactical Gear reviewers had this to say about the Ambit:
Years of research and development went into creating the ultimate watch for the nature-loving athlete. Those dedicated to their outdoor training will find the GPS function especially helpful. Again, they track their progress through Movescount and program their routes through the embedded Google Maps. In addition, they can plug in trackback points while out on the trail.

The only question left unanswered… is your next adventure going to be as ambitious as your watch?

YES!

What Kilian Jornet is up to in 2012

We're excited to see that Suunto Athlete Kilian Jornet is planning another big year of running in 2012. Here's his latest plan for hitting the trails (after the snow season ends, of course - Kilian is off to Mount Etna for the Ski Mountaineering Trophy World Cup in Sicily next week!)
"This year I wanted to do different things, after many years of doing the same races, and wanted to seek new goals, new discoveries."
Here's his schedule, with a few comments from Kilian on each:

May 12: TRANSVULCANIA 83km. (Canary Islands-Spain) A career run that I wanted to compete, on an island paradise (!)and this year with an exceptional level ... but it is only 1 week after the PDG run!

May 20: Zegama 42km. (Euskadi - Spain) / A Classic - this will be the 4th time I have participated. Without doubt one of the essential (in my opinion with di Mont Giir Sierre Zinal i) Great Environment!

June 23: Western States 100. 100M (California USA) The 3rd participation for me, despite being a career that suits my conditions I want to return for the environment and to stay after in the little known Californian mountains.

June 30: Kilian's Classic: (Font Romeu Pyrenees) more than a race, a party of Trail running, with running friends, and a chance to show you my country.

July 20 to 22: VK and SkyRace Dolomites. 2 km and 21km (Dolomites - Italy) I ran this 3 years ago and it left me a very good taste, a spectacular region and a beautiful career.

July 28: Speedgoat. 50 km. (Utah - USA) Off to the United States again to spend a month there to discover and run by its mountains in Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada.

August 19: Pikes Peak Marathon, 42km (Colorado - USA) An American Classic, the 3rd oldest marathon in the USA and the 1st mountain race. It felt like a long race last time!

August 26: KIMA, 50km (Valtellina - Italy) One of the great, the first Skyraces and one of the more technical. Pure Skyrunning!

October 14: Kinabalu Climbathon 21km (Borneo - Malaysia) Short but the hardest, 2300m up and down technical trails. This year I return to Asia for this beautiful race.

Oct. 19: Grand Raid Reunion, 170km (Reunion Island) The 20th anniversary probably holds many surprises. How to describe this race? Impossible, people, environment, landscapes, nature, hardness ... a dream

Love from Tauchen Magazine!

Suunto has just been voted the best dive computer brand by readers of Tauchen Magazine. The magazine, one of Germany's largest diving magazines, confirmed the honor on January 26.

"We're delighted by the vote," comments Mikko Moilanen, CEO of Suunto. "We have a heritage of manufacturing authentic technological and functional dive instruments, and we have been at the forefront of dive computer technology since 1936."

Suunto has been manufacturing precision instruments for almost 80 years, launching the first dive compass in 1965 and the first dive computer in 1987. The Finnish brand has remained at the cutting edge of design and innovation for dive computers and instruments as well as outdoor watches, and has earned the trust of divers and adventurers around the world.

“We'd like to say a big thank you to all our German customers who voted for us. To win an award like this means a great deal to every employee at Suunto," says Moilanen.

Yogaslackers

Our friends at The Gear Junkie and Yogaslackers are getting ready for the Patagonian Expedition Race in Chile. To help prepare for the big effort, they took a Christmas break trip to the Oregon Coast. Road biking, big-wave kayaking, water rescue drills and smoothies laced with habanero sauce were all a part of the fun!

Watch this fun and fantastic video of their exploits!

Rebecca Rusch Tells Us Why

Our friend and incredible Suunto athlete Rebecca Rusch sent us this recently released project that she has been secretly working on with Corey Rich, acclaimed photographer. Corey has been developing a new film, titled "WHY", to highlight the new Nikon D4 camera, for a showcase at the Consumer Electronics Show this week. The film tells the story of the motivation behind the endless drive of three super-athletes.

This is a stunningly amazing video, showing off the talents of kayaker Dane Jackson, rock climber Alex Honnold, and Reba. All three tell the story of why they do it - why they push themselves to the limits on the water, on the bike trail, and on the sheer slope.

Here are Rebecca's words describing the project:
"I got to spend Thanksgiving in Moab with Greg, photographer Corey Rich and his crew of about 8 people. It was a big, multi-day shoot that ran from pre-dawn til after dark every day.
It was cold and sort of hard work, but pretty cushy compared to racing. I've known Corey for about 15 years and worked with him during my adventure racing career. He invited me to be part of the video from Nikon launching their new D4. The only thing is that the camera was so super top secret that we weren't allowed to tell anyone what the shoot was for, or who we were working with. Corey spent months shooting and working in secrecy on this amazing video. He did three different shoots with his crew in Mexico, Moab and Joshua Tree. The idea was to highlight what the D4 can do and Corey told the story by featuring the athletes in this amazing film called "WHY". It's one of the best films I've ever seen. It was a blast to be part of it."

You can check out Corey Rich's blogsite for more details on the shoot. Rich has this to say about his motivation to make the film:
"I have always been facinated by those people that are the best at what they do. Those that operate on the edge; scientists, artists, athletes, etc. Always the question that I find myself asking is "WHY"? What deep inside drives them? What does the world look like through their eyes?"
And stay tuned. We have some behind the scenes imagery and commentary from the project that we'll be bringing you!

Thanks Rebecca, and thanks Corey Rich!
